Criterion 1

Holders of secondary education qualifications or legally equivalent qualifications that fall within the relevant area of the higher professional technical course for which they are applying (area 481 – Computer Science, area 213 – Audiovisual and Media Production, or area 523 – Electronics and Automation) are exempt from taking the specific entrance exam for the respective Higher Technical Course and will apply with their final course average, converted to a numerical scale from 0 (zero) to 200 (two hundred) points;

Holders of a secondary school diploma or legally equivalent qualification who do not fall within the relevant area of the higher technical course for which they are applying will have to take a specific entrance exam.

The Specific Entrance Exam consists of a written exam taken in person, depending on the course you want to take, covering three areas: Portuguese Language, Math, and Technology.
The grade awarded will be converted to a numerical scale from 0 (zero) to 200 (two hundred) points, and candidates will apply with the grade they are awarded.

Over 23 years old

Candidates over the age of 23 who demonstrate that they are legally eligible to attend higher education must take an exam in accordance with Decreto-Lei No. 64/2006, of March 21, with the amendments introduced by Decreto-Lei No. 63/2016, of September 13, and the ISTEC regulations for applicants over 23 years of age, and will apply with the grade they were awarded, converted to a numerical scale from 0 (zero) to 200 (two hundred) points.

Candidates who are at least 23 years old by December 31 of the year prior to the exams and who have any educational qualifications.

Assessment components in the application process

  • First part – The candidate listens to a 30-minute lecture given by a professor from the scientific field of the desired course.
  • Second part – The candidate writes a brief summary of the lecture, with 1 hour to complete it.

Assessment of the motivations presented by the candidate for choosing the higher education course, through an interview.

Re-entry Regime

Re-entry is the act by which a student, after interrupting their studies at ISTEC Lisboa, enrolls at the same Higher Education Institution and registers for the same course or a course that has replaced it, provided that these are still running.
