Project "Escape to Your Future - 2020-2-ES02-KA205-015372
This project, which ran from January 2020 to July 2022, was funded by the InJuve Agency (Spain) and was a partnership involving the ITA (ISTEC Lisbon and ISTEC Porto), the Centre d’Estudis Politècnics (Spain, coordinator) and the Non-Governmental Association Logos, NGO (Poland).
In general, the project aims to promote actions, develop content and digital educational tools and analyze the impact of innovative methodologies (namely gamification) on target groups and stakeholders, rooted in a process of civilizational change (social, political, economic and cultural). Always taking advantage of the individual skills and competences of each partner and each participating individual, anchored by the best research practices.
We can highlight as main products of the project a manual on gamification for trainers/educators/youth workers, a massive open online course (MOOC) gamified on various concepts for employability (e.g. entrepreneurship, CV creation, job interview, cover letter) and an Escape Box also on employability with a view to developing soft-skills through non-formal methodologies and game-based learning.
This project had several multiplier events (one per partner country), highlighting the event organized at ISTEC Lisbon which had more than 150 participants when the number estimated in the application was 40. In terms of training there was a blended mobility that involved 12 students (4 from each institution) and whose face-to-face component took place in Barcelona during a week (in April 2022).
This partnership had an active participation and involvement of several teachers/researchers and technical staff of ITA (ISTEC Lisbon and ISTEC Porto). This team was involved in the development of the intellectual products, in the technical assistance to the development of the audiovisual materials, and in the organization of the multiplying events.
It also had the involvement of students from the Multimedia Engineering degree and the CTeSP of Multimedia Products Development, regarding the development of the visual elements of the project (such as logo, standards manual, website, posters), originating a final degree project for one of the students involved. Also in the Master in Informatics there was an involvement of a student who collaborated in the development of the educational content for the MOOC and whose dissertation was based on that project.
Another result of the project would be the creation of a new winning application directed towards gender equality, which we will present below. As a result of the networking established, two new applications were submitted. One of them, winner and already under development, directed to gender equality we will present next, the second, directed to a human rights issue was submitted in October and is awaiting the result (with the participation of ISTEC Lisbon and Logos, NGO plus two new partners).

Project "Women entrepreneurs in ICT - Enhancing skills to bridge the digital divide - 2020-1-PT01-KA226-VET-094680"
This project is a follow-up of the previous one, after the identification of specific needs that the Escape to Your Future project did not address. Thus, this partnership, in the Vocational and Professional Education sector, includes part of the Escape To Your Future partners (namely ITA (ISTEC Lisbon and ISTEC Porto) as coordinator and the Centre d’Estudis Politècnics) joined by the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (Portugal), the CoEspai coworking community (Spain) and the training company FA Magdeburg GmbH.
Coordinated by ISTEC Lisbon, this project, which began in May 2021 and will end in April 2023, will seek to combat the gender gap, namely in access to training and employment in the areas of information technology and entrepreneurship.
The project uses formal and non-formal methodologies in order to develop several intellectual outputs (e.g., framework of conditions for women’s access to employment and training in the area of technology and entrepreneurship, online educational/training content (MOOC), innovative multimedia platform, pedagogical tools, assessment, validation and recognition of skills, as well as a pedagogical model for distance learning), among other related activities (such as a blended training with a face-to-face week involving 15 young women).
Under this project several of the planned products have already been developed, namely:
– The framework of conditions for women’s access to employment and training in the mentioned areas, to which a manual of good practices carried out in this scope in some European countries has been added;
– The online platform for multiplatform educational resources (for consultation at https://ewomeninict.eu/learningplatform/), which is a web-based platform developed for the inclusion of educational content (online courses);
– Audiovisual educational content in several languages and oriented to multiple profiles. As an example, courses have been developed on introduction to web development (html, css), photography, video, design, personal branding, digital marketing, project management, among others. Those interested can enroll individually in each course, or choose one of several existing profiles, for example “creative” that will have a set of courses associated with that profile. These contents are accessible on any device, and are available on the educational platform mentioned above.
This project, so far, has had a multiplier event (in Germany) and will have two other multiplier events (one in Spain and one in Portugal). In terms of training activities, it will have a mixed activity for 15 students (3 from each of the 5 partners) and the face-to-face activity will take place in Barcelona, Spain in early November 2022.
This project also had a complementary and multidisciplinary team, with professors, technical staff and students. The professors were more involved in the development of the intellectual products, in terms of the development of studies and educational content, as well as research for the development of the access framework and educational platform. The technical staff was involved in the development of the educational platform, as well as assisting in the development of the audiovisual materials.
As far as the students are concerned, similarly to what was already mentioned in the previous project, there was the participation of students from the CTeSP in Multimedia Product Development, from the Degree in Multimedia Engineering, and a Master’s student. The first ones in the development of posters and visual documents for the project. The undergraduate students have been involved in several moments of the project, from the development of the project logo, standards manual and website, to the support in the development of audiovisual educational content, resulting in two global undergraduate projects as well as several projects within the scope of curricular units (e.g. Video Lab, Sound Lab, Multimedia Technologies for E-Learning and Computer Graphics). In the case of the master’s student, her involvement is related to the study of technologies and gender equality, work that is still under development.
This project also gave rise to a new application (also already approved), which will seek to complement the existing project with new elements and in new European countries. This partnership with ITA (ISTEC Lisbon) as well as the company FA Magdeburg (among others) will start work in December 2022.

Project “Innovating Virtual Reality and EU standards in the Real Estate sector – 2021-1-BG01-KA220-VET-000034659”
This project, in the scope of Vocational and Professional Education, is coordinated by a Bulgarian association – Association “FIABCI – Bulgaria”, with the participation of 6 other partners, ITA-ISTEC Lisbon (Portugal), Balgarska Stopanska Kamara – Sayuz Na Balgarskia Biznes (Bulgaria), P&C Company Ltd (Bulgaria), Akmi Anonimi Ekpaideftiki Etairia (Greece), Agenzia Per Lo Sviluppo Dell’Empolese Valdelsa (Italy) and VsI Socialiniu Inovaciju Centras (Lithuania).
This is a project that started in December 2021 and will last until 2024, so it is still at an early stage in terms of work development.
This project aims to develop a set of both technological and training materials, oriented to the real estate sector. In addition, studies will be conducted to understand the differences in both legislation and training in the real estate sector in the various countries. In general terms there are 5 Project Results, from the development of VET curricula using virtual reality, methodologies for integration of online teaching models, virtual reality software, e-learning platform and a database of Open Educational Resources.
The virtual reality component is even a central element of this project and where the participation of ISTEC Lisbon (as an educational institution in the areas of information technologies) will be greater.
The project will also have mixed multiplier events (with live and virtual participants) in the various partner countries and a mixed training activity for students, with the live component taking place in Bulgaria, probably at the end of next year (2023).
We also expect to involve several teachers and students from various courses, undergraduate degrees in Multimedia Engineering and Computer Engineering, CTeSPs and Master in Computer Science.

Project “Creating Shared Value@Vet – 2022-1-DE02-KA220-VET-000088303”
This project, again in the scope of Vocational and Professional Education, appears as a side-project of the eWomen in ICT project mentioned above. Based on the collaboration between ISTEC Lisbon (Portugal) and the company FA Magdeburg (Germany), a new partnership was established, coordinated by the German partner and that besides ISTEC Lisbon has 6 new partners, namely: Institute Of Entrepreneurship Development (NGO from Greece); For a Better World (NGO from Turkey); SC ROGEPA SRL (SME from Romania); Lodzka Izba Przemyslowo-Handlowa (Public body from Poland); Liceul Tehnologic “Alexandru Domsa” (Professional school from Romania); and Zavod Za Izobrazevanje In Kulturo Crnomelj (Public body from Slovenia).
This project is still in the contractual process and will start work in December 2022.
The development of these projects has allowed the inclusion of students and staff in Teaching and Training as well as Research activities. Moreover, following these Erasmus+ KA2 projects, a guided research project has already started, financed with own resources of the Advanced Computing Research Unit (Research Unit of ISTEC Lisbon) in the scope of open educational resources and with the involvement of three faculty members (Prof. Paulo Duarte Branco, as Principal Investigator, and Profs. Pedro Ramos Brandão and Andreia Teles Vieira as Researchers).
Furthermore, ISTEC Lisboa participation in these projects has led to the creation of a structure responsible for them, namely the ISTEC Lisboa Educational Projects and Internationalization Office.
It is ISTEC Lisbon’s intention to continue to coordinate and participate in projects under Erasmus+ Action 2, as well as seek participation in other programs such as Horizon Europe or European Solidarity Corps (to which we have already submitted an application as partners that was not funded). This type of projects, as initially mentioned, fit in with ISTEC Lisbon’s Mission and Educational Project, both in terms of research and development and in terms of international positioning and social responsibility.

Project “ANALYSIS (Training Media Professionals on Applying advanced, highimpact digital technologies to combat disinformation) – KA220-VET-78AE5548
This ANALYSIS project is designed in line with the Erasmus+ call text, and aims to support the EU digital transformation strategy and complement at least two specific VET priorities. The proposal addresses all the objectives of the Cooperation Partnerships and contributes to the main problems concerning adult education as described in the European Commission’s reports on adult education policies for Greece, Austria and Portugal. ANALYSIS responds to the need for journalists to learn the advanced digital skills needed to combat misinformation and acquire the essentials that a future journalist would need, to secure long-term employment. We propose the creation of intensive education program to combat disinformation in Greece, Austria and Portugal, in a context of declining trust in traditional media, a gap in fact-checking education, concern about the rise and impact of disinformation, and registered needs in the labor market. And an analysis and mapping of the use and creation of digital and multimedia tools to combat disinformation in different digital media.
